First of all, the smell is incredible!  I love the smell of that crabboil when it's cooking.  And that buttery smell is unbelievable! Oops! I almost forgot that peppery scent, it sometimes makes me sneeze, but it's worth it.

     Next is the taste.  It's the best part!  I love the juice that squirts out when you bite down on the meat.  But it's mostly the butter that's in the meat.  The best part is that it's chewy.  One time it took me like an hour just to finish just one piece!

     Last, but not least is how it looks.  It looks so good it makes my mouth water! It's snow white on the inside and cherry red on the outside. (That's the shell.) And that's how it looks. 

     When we were done explaining, my Mom said OK. I was very excited.  When the crab legs were done, we all stuffed ourselves.  And it was the best sleepover ever!
 

     First, the crowd smelled the cooking skin.  The smokey smell of the hot coals filled the air.  The crowd raced over to my booth.  As soon as they took a whiff of the tender meat, they began to scream, "We want ribs! We want ribs!"

     Next, after the ribs were perfectly done,  I carried them out into the crowd for tasting.  I carried the grilled, brown, moist ribs like a ring bearer carrying a wedding ring and placed them before the judges.

     Finally, judge # 1, Sir Ralph Fontemoore, using a serated knife, cut into the tender meat.  As he took the first bite, the bar-b- cue sauce dripped from his lips.  The spices brought excitement to his mouth.  As he swallowed he sang a chorus, "These are the greatest ribs in the world." The second judge said, "I wonder how these ribs really taste." As Roseline Castleberry took her first bite she fainted.  Judge # 3, Leroy Jackson, said, 'These ribs are excellent. I declare David's ribs are the winner of this cook-off hands down!"
 

     My first time tasting crawfish was when I was three years old.  it was meaty, spicy, juicy, and delicious.  i learned how to peel them when I was five years old.  I saw my dad boiling crawfish.  it looked small, dirty, and bawld up.

     In the summer i had a party and we brought three sacks of crawfish.  My dad put it in the big pot.  You have to throw a match under the pot and it is going to catch on fire.  you could see the gasses of the fire.

     When the crawfish turn red, it is ready.  Crawfish has a lot of ingredients, so it can have a lot of flavor.  The crawfish meat has red stripes on it.  The poop is yellow, it is very nasty.
     If you ever try crawfish, I hope you like them.  It is my favorite seafood.  They are red, juicy, and tender.  The claws are very delicious.  I hope you like it like I do.  Crawfish are very tiny. 

     The taste is out of this world.  The chicken is so juicy. The yummy fried rice is good too.  The sweet and sour, I die when I eat it.  I am in heaven writing this essay.  It is making me hungry. 

     The look  is wonderful how it is designed.  The nice way food looks is like...Bam!  I love when I get the food and it is so steamy I could take a bath in it.  Oh, it  is nice and good. My favorite Chinese food is Ramon noodles.  I also like the fried rice.

     My favorite place to eat is "ocean Buffet."  I bet you would agree with me if you tried it.

     We evacuated to Birmingham, Alabama.  I was excited about that because you can see the USS Alabama and take a tour of it too.  Birminham even has a Kids' Museum.  We usually evacuate to Mobile, but it was affected this time by the storm.  it's a good thing Birmingham wasn't affected.

     When i got to Birmingham, it was Labor Day.  This was a day that my family and I could blow off some steam.  We fond it to be a big deal to relax after our long, long, long drive.  So to help me to relax, I got on the computer.  I looked up the giant squid, colossal squid, blue whale, and thunder birds on You Tube.  The thunderirds movie was great. Have you seen it?

     I started to get a little homesick.  I wondered if my house was okay.  When I left to evacuate, I was very quiet and a little scared.  Finally it was time to say our goodbyes and farewells.

     The storm was over and we headed back home.  My house was fine, just a lot of leaves. Man, that was a journey!

     When we left our house to evacuate, I was very nervous and sad.  I remembered what happened to our house when Hurricane katrina came.  I was afraid the same thing would happen this time.  I felt better wehn we got to play with my friends.  my dad also made me feel better because he watched the T.V. and said, "The hurricane was going to the west of us."  That meant we probably won't get water in my house.

     We carried our two dogs, jasper and m.j> with us.  They had to stay in their kennels.  They both were nervous like me.  I had to pack their food and toys.  They were so scared they whinned the whole way there.  But they felt better because my Mom's friend had dogs to play with. 

     On the way there the traffic was bad, but the weather was nice.  When we arived I fished at their pond and played outside.  That night, it began to rain and the wind started to blow.  The next day a tree fell down and hit the power line.  That meant we had no power.  Later that day the weather got a little better so we went outside and played in the gooey mud.

     We got to go home on Tuesday and our house was fine.  There was no  damage to our home.  I was very relieved that everything was getting back to normal.   Even my dogs, M.J. and jasper were glad to e home.  I really don't mind about evacuating as long as my family's safe. 

     Hello, my name is Grid, and i want to tell you about what I did over Hurricane Gustav.  Last week I went to Indiana. I went with my mom, dad, sisters, and my pet pommeranian, named Leah.  It was the longest trip ever! It was twelve hours.

     After the long trip we finally arrived at my cousin's house. They were all standing outside watching for us.  There were very happy to see us.  Most all of our family were there at their house.

     Then we went inside to play the Wii.  My cousins and i had fun, but I got hit in the eye with the Wii remote. I wasn't hurt but I did have a big hicky on my eye.  Well it wasn't exactly on my eye, it was on the side of my eye.

      I evacuated for Hurricane Gustav.  I felt ok about leaving.  I was with my Mom and Dad and my two brothers and sisters.

     The trip to Georgia was fun.  once we got to Georgia, we went by my autns' house.  I was very tired, so I put on my bed clothes and went to bed.  When i woke up the next morning I ate breakfast.  I took a bath, put on fresh clothes.  I played on my Play Station with my cousins and my brothers and my sisters.  I had a lot of fun.  I love my aunt and all my cousins.

      When we went back home, I was happy our house was not torn down. My house was still looking the same and I was happy.  On Monday of the next week I couldn't wait to see my friend and to see my teacher again. 

     We got to go fishing, swimming, go on a boat, and the best part was that..... WE GOT TO JUMP OFF THE CLIFFS! It was so much fun.

     I got to drive the boat and so did my sister, Elizabeth.  These are the peope who went with us: my Aunt, my mom, my dad grandpa, my sister, and me.  We even changed evacuation to vacation.  That was the best vacation I ever had. 

I was at my cousins' house during the start of hurricane gastav.  i swam in their deep ool and played awesome high flying baseball.  I was at my cousins' house during the hurricane Gustav's active flooding.  MY mom's, dad's, sister, cousin and I were in Florida also called the Sunshine State, when this condition took place.  I had to evacuate because I didn't want to get hurt, and I wanted to see my cousin, and of course everyone knows to go on the go carts. 

     As I got older I grew to love the game even more.  Once I started watching it on TV and also going to games, my Mom bought me a bigger goal and a ral basketball so that I could practice outside of my house.  As I practiced I began to get better and better.  And I started playing with my brother.  He saw that I was getting better and better. I practiced so much until all my friends started watching me.  After several times, they decided that we should start playing as teams.  It was my brother and me against our friends.  At first we used to get whipped all the time.  And then we started beating them until they thought we were too good for them.

     Now I am really good at basketball and I think that I can beat my big brother on my own.  I hope one day that I can go to college and play for a team that I can show  my true talent and get discovered by an NBA team, such as the New Orleans Hornets.  My Dad thinks he is better than I am, but I have beaten him several times. I am so excited about basketball that I will play every chance I get.

     In conclusion, my skills are really good that I think that I can beat almost anyone.  I am happy that the goal that I have achieved is one that I can have much success at.  And when I go to the NBBA I will be very, very rich.  I am glad that my Mom and Dad loved me enough to follow my dream for my love of basketball. 

     My teacher wants us to tell about a goal we met.  I'm going to be telling about three goals I met.  The goals I am talking about are when I learned to ride a bike, when I learned how to skate on healies, and when I learned how to make eggs. I'm very proud of myself. 

     The first goal I met was learning to ride my bike.  First Ihad to learn to pedal.  Then I learned to balance and pedal so I could move.  Finally they taught me to turn and stop.  Now I know how to ride a two wheeler. 

     Then I learned to skate on healies.  First I had to learn to balance.  The next thing I had to learn was to roll and to turn.  Then my cousin, Diamond, taught me how to stop.  She taught me because she's at my house and because she had healies too. 

     I was  about seven and I was begging my Mom to teach me how to make eggs.  So first she shaid you have to crack the egg without getting shells in it. So I cracke it and got about 5 shells in it.  My Mom said you had to put just the right amount of seasoning in it.  Then I had to learn how to turn the stove on without burning myself, and to know when to take the eggs off so they would not burn. 

    Setting goals is important. Learning how to meet goals now will teach you how to meet goals when you are an adult. A goal that I will like to meet in the future is to become a children's doctor and another goal I would like to meet in the future is to finish college.

         One day my brother, Jordan, brought home a new born baby Pitt Bull! She was cute but it was kind of scary because I have a Chocolate Lab too.  My dad said that a friend he worked with had two labs and a pitt bull.  When the man came home, the pitt bull had killed the labs and there was blood everyhwere!  It was sad.  So during the day, when nobody is home, we keep her in a kennel. 

     The puppy's name is MJ It's short for Mary Jane, I think. I don't know why my brother named her that, but he just did.  Ilove her. She's supper nice! She and my dog Jasper get along really well.  She and my cat even get along! She likes to play chase with her around the house.  She doesn't hurt her thogh.  My goal is to train her because she can be wild sometimes.  That happened a coupd of weeks ago.  She loves cheetos so that's what I use as her treats when Itrain her until my Mom can go to the tore.  She's doing pretty well right now.  She even learned how to roll over.  It was easy to teach her that.  All I had to do was throw one of her toys and it rolled over like MJ is supposed to .  Then she rolled over like her toy! It was easy to train her.  I achieved my goal by training her.  So now I have no worries! 

     Out of all of my achievements, being a pet owner and raising pets is probably one of my greatest accomplishments.  I never gave up on my pets for their entire lifetime.  I started raising pets because I thought it might help me in the future when I have my own children.  Ever since I've started this achievement I have never had any free time.  I chose this achievement because I love animals.

     First, I'd like to talk about my hamster.  I feed my hamster with flax seed from Wild Harvest.  I care for her by making sure that Stripe, my other hamster, doesn't eat her babies  I don't think I'll be very happy when my hamsters die because it's happened to me before.  My hamster alwasy gets out of her cage and always runs away.

     Secondly,  I shall talk about my ferret.  I fed my ferret with cat food from Pet Smart.  I cleaned my ferret's cage every two weeks.  I don't have to worry about her dying because I don't own her anymore.  She has a nasty odor and is always very eager to get out of her cage.

     Lastly, I will talk about my long snake.  I feed my snake with big, fat, juicy, white rats.  I bring my snake outside in the sun when it's sick.  One of my snakes already died so if this snake dies it can't really break my heart because it is already broken.  It doesn't look very normal when it squeezes it's prey, and then eats it.

     This pet raising will lead up to future causes.  One day when I have kids my pet raising skills will help me take care of them.  I will become a really great father just like my two dads. They feed, care, and worry about my death just like I do with my pets.  When I grow up and become a father I will continuously raise pets and pass it down to my kids. 

     Our teacher has asked our class to write about when we achieved a goal.  The goal I picked was when I trained my dog.  I am going to talk about the time I trained my dog, and how it changed my life. 

     First I am going to talk about when I trained my dog.  I've trained my dog from the first day I got him.   It as not that hard.  I'll tell you what  I showed him.  I showed him how to sit, how to catch the ball, and how to kick the ball. 

     Second I'm going to talk about why I trained him.  I trained him because it was going to be so much easier to keep him in the house. It is so he can be a good buddy, and when you play with him he won't bite you.

     Last, but not least, I am going to talk about how it changed my life.  Having a pet changed my life because if I am alone my dog will come andlay on my lap.  He won't barck at babies and people.

     Last, it was not hard to train my dog, but it changed my life a lot.  I dont' feel alone any more. 

     I had a special goal to reach.  It was to play violin and learn three songs.  I like to do three things with the violin.  I like to play, make, and listen to the violin.  It is very fun.  Anybody can do it.
     I like to play violin.  I take violin lessons every tuesday.  I have learned three songs so far.  They are "Twinkle", "MOnkey", and "Spider.  They are very fun to play.  I even play on special events.

      I make music every day.  It is very fun if you know how to play.  My goal is to play violing but making music is also fun.  It is just lots of work.

    At school I always listen to the music before I play it.  It is so I can play.  I like to complete goals.  it is very hard to reach a goal.  I am glad to reach my goal. 

     In karate my goal was to practice and get my new belt.  Karate has all kinds of belts you can get.  They also have differentkinds of forms you have to learn so that you can get another belt.

     There are all kinds of rules you have to follow. You have to learn them so that you can get another belt.

     There are all kinds of rules to follow.  You have to practice two times a week.  You have to do well in school. You have to bring a letter from your teacher saying that you are doing well in school.

      The first form you learn is songahm.  That takes about four weeks.  When you learn this first form you will get your first belt, which is an orange belt.

     So far I got four belts and each of them was a big achievement for me.  I hope to one day get my black belt.  This is the highest belt you can get. 

     These are the ways I met my goal. 

     This story is about me, David, and my desire to be popular with my friends.  I was tired of being called a nerd and I wanted to do something that would make the kids like me. 

     It was July, 2004, and I was building a flagship called the USS Enterprise.  I was preparing for the Grand War.  I had built two other ships for this fleet earlier that year.   They were the Bismark and the Tomato.  I made three other main ships, the USS Yorktown,  the USS Hornet, and the USS Wasp.   As I entered the Grand War of 2004 with my fleet of six ships, I had the most feared fleet of fighting ships in all the world.  By the way, did I mention all of these powerful combat ships were MADE OF LEGOS!

     Torpedos were flying everywhere.  The enemy ship had more fire power than I thought. My enemy captain was Damian and he had built some very strong ships.  He used rubber bands to shoot his torpedos. I used hydraulic K-nex catapults to launch hundreds of bombs and torpedos.  My fleet out fired his.  Many of his ships settled at the bottom of the sea.

     As the sun rose that warm, July morning, I was able to see the damage to my fleet of ships.  The Yorktown was sunk. The Wasp was taking on water.  The other ships were still afloat.  I radioed for help and my mates and I were waiting for help and praying that the neemy ships were too damaged to fir on us.  I was sure that I was the winner.

     Most boys at my school like to play football or basketball.  They are good at running and video games.  but I am good at other things.  I like learning facts about the giant squid and the dossal squid.  I like reading about blue whales and sperm whales.  I eally like creating things with my hands.  I realle like making ships and air craft carriers out of legs and knex pieces.  My friend Damian also likes the same things.  I dont' feel so much like a nerd when I play with Damian.

     My life changed because I found soemthng I am good at. I may not be the faster runner.  I may not catch a football so good.  And the boys at schoo may call me a nerd.  but that day at  summer camp, I was the lego king.  All the kids liked my creations.  Damian was good at building too.  Damian and I had a great summer.  I won the Grand War of 2004.  I also realized that I am good at something.  That makes me happy and I feel good about myself. 

     My school is having a writing contest.  I am building a machine that does your homework.  all you do is put in your homework list and "ding!" Your homework is done.  Then you can watch TV and act like you did it yourself.  It is cool. 

     My invention will look like a check out machine. It will help kids everywhere.  It is the size of a lead box.  It will make no noise at all. Your parents wouldn't know a thing. 

     The machine will feel like beads. It doesn't smell like anything.  It will be the best machine ever.  It would be done with your homework in seconds. It is awesome. 

     This is what happened when I tested my machine.  I put my list in for Math. Nothing happened.  Then lights came on. My homework was done in seconds.

     My invention will be a machine that does your homework.  It will do it in seconds. It doesn't make a loud noise.  It is the perfect machine. 

     My school is having a writing contest, and I'm going t tell you about an invention that you can use for only a day at the Kennedy Space Center. The invention is a Jetpack.  I was walking in the space center when I used it. I could go any speed and every speed. 

     The Jetpack can do this.  If yo can think the speed you can go the speed.  I know what  you are thinking.  "Where did I get it?"  Well here I was taking a tour at Kennedy Space Center.   Allof a sudden Itripped and tapped the Jetpack.  When I got up the Jetpack was formed on me.

     I couldn't beliee I actually had a Jetpack on me.  I pushed athe button that said "Go", and the Jetpack went so fast, almost at hyperspeed.  Up, up in the air I went.  It was so cool.  Boy, I bet my friends wished they could do this.  I was so fascinated by the Jetpack, but I had to come back to reality.  After all, I was at the Kennedy Space Center. 

      So I came back down and I am glad it was a safe landing.  Another button on the Jetpack said "Remove", so I pushed that button adn the Jetpack came off my back.  I would love to ave a Jetpack, but I think it is better off right where it is at, The Kennedy Space Center. 

     I am glad that I was able to be a Jetpack driver for a day, but Ithink it could get scary if you didn't know how to use one, especially if you went in space with it and didn't know how to come back down.  Well,that was my invention and my adventure for the day.  Now back to reality.

    My school, Abney Elementary, is having a writing contest.  I'm talking about a time machine, but I can only use the invention for one day.  My invention actually came to me when I thought, "Why can't people go back in time to fix their mistakes."  So I discovered the time machine.  When I first used the inventin I found out that you can step into it and press any button to make time freeze, slow down, or speed up.  The invention I found was very  unpredictable about giving up, so I made up my mind to deal with it and give it up.

     First, I walked out in my backyard by the shed.  I stepped on some kind of button in the dirt.  Something very huge grew, unto my amazement.  The dir flew off of the ground and into my eytes.  My dog walked through it and disappeared for good.

     When I used the invention something very unusual happened.  I pushed a button on the thing.  One part of the machine transported to another universe while the other part didn't . A really strange feeling gathered up in me when I stepped inside of it, and that's when I found out that it was a time machine.  Soon I ended up in the past during the time of the dinosaurs.

     I didn't want to give the time machine back after those great discoveries.  This invention has changed my life.  I loved seeing my future and even my past.  Me, my self , looked pretty handsome as a baby.  But I had to give the time machine back to nature.

    This year I finally won the writing contest.  I don't have my invention any more but nature has taken it over.  I will never forget those two little buttons on top of the soil.  I've never seen my dog ever since the accident.  I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad the time machine is gone. 

   My school is having a writing contest.  I have to write about an invention that I made.  My invention is a hoola hoop.  I know what you're thining.  Why a hoolahoop? Hoolahoops have already been invented.  Not just any hoolahoop though.  If you throw it over you, it changes you into any ofoutfit you want to wear.  My writing is going to be great!

     First, I was just sitting in my room thinking about how I'm always rushed to get dressed.  then I saw my hoolahoop on the other side of the room.  I thought about how fast it went over me.  I created this device where if yo threw it over you, you would get wwhat ever outfit you want on.  At first, I had a few difficulties.  I fixed it so it worked perfectly.  My invention was going to be the best one yet.

    I didn't want to give it back.  I could use it for other days.  Plus it was fun changing outfits every two seconds.  It as a fantastic invention.  I hted to give it back.  That aws the best invention anyone has ever seen.

    The contest was great! I came in second place though.   First place went to KIara with a robot that shoots out yor favorite candy.  No wonder all those kids are getting cavities these days! I hope you liked my invention.  I can't wait to see yours.
