Technology Integration in the Classroom- to Enhance Learning
(Having Fun with Technology!)
Faculty Development
Strategies/Incentives/Assessments
Assessnments & Strategies:
Step One:
The first step is to interview the teachers to determine their level of expertise in the use of technology.  Some sample technology surveys can be found by clicking here (Monroe County) or here .(Seir-Tec, p. 233)
Step Two:
A determination of where the faculty members are located on the CBAM model (Concerns Based ADoption Model) should then be assessed.  technology integration without a study of the teacher concerns about integration is doomed to failure.  A sample CBAm based tech survey can be accessed by clicking here.  (Seir-Tec, p. 245)
Step Three:
Professional Development needs to be tailored to fit the level of expertise and comfort of the teachers.  Although FHS has been piloting the SIS gradebook and attendance program for over a year, and routinely teachers are expected to communicate with parents and administrators by email, simple teacher attrition and turnover will account for the staff members' technology expertise ranging from rank beginners to expert users.
Beginning users must be inserviced in unfamiliar software, but also must be encouraged to view technology as something more than glorified typewriters and online encyclopedias.  It is expected that they will be encouraged and mentored by expert users in their subject area on campus, as well as take advantage of technology workshops and courses geared toward improving student scores on state madated tests by the judicious use of technology.
