WHY Faculty Devlopment?
While technology has been in place at FHS for several years, as well as the implementation of the SIS software model of online grading and lesson planning, faculty turn-over and expansion is fairly high each year.  This is due to the fact that most of the parish population growth is the FHS school district area.  This necessitates the addition of faculty each year, coupled with natural attrition and changeover rates, it is therefore expected that the technology skills of faculty and staff members will range from rank beginners to expert users, as well as those capable and experienced at andrgogical teaching methods concerning technology and technology integration.   Using several of professional development models, particularly the Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM), as well as technology based learning activities will be offered that promote proficient use of the required software, as well as higher use of technology and classroom integration models.
Participants will be grouped by various methods depending on their location on the professional development continuum.  The most simple dividions would be technological beginners, technology users, and technology experts.  Due to the difference in experience and comfort levels, it will be expected that classes, workshops, "prep period" mini-workshops, teacher mentoring and discussion groups will need to be focused on all three groups.  Beginners will be inserviced in the SIS grading and attendance program immediately prior to school starting, asd will be assigned a teacher mentor for help and collaboration.  Teachers are required to read all bulletins, staff memos and much parental communications via email, so inservices for those unfamiliar with email will need to be accomplished immediately before school each year, toi handle teacher attrition and turnovers.  The "Technology User" group will focus on pedagogical uses of technology integration, including alignment of curriculum standards and benchmarks, as well as specific technological actvities that encourage critical thinking, or specific skills tested by the GEE and IOWA tests.  The "Technology Experts" will be used in the "Train the Trainer" model, as mentors, as participants and providers of informal and formal campus workshops and also as presenters at state, regional and national conferences.
