Eastside Upper
Elementary has been awarded a one time technology grant and a guaranteed
technology budget for three consecutive years. After a needs assessment and
a great deal of planning the school is ready to move into a new
technological future. The one time grant for $44,000 will provide the facility with an up-to-date multimedia project lab. This lab will be equipped with 31 computers, a SMART board and projection device, laser printer, two color deskjet printers, digital cameras, and a scanner. The half time lab teacher will meet with each class for a minimum of 50 minutes per week and provide for mentoring to the teachers. At the present time the school has one computer in each classroom without Internet access. Printers are located in half the classrooms. The library and administrative office have Internet access using dial up accounts. There are two small labs with 20 computers each and a MAC lab presently used by the Art teacher. Over the next three years with the funding of $34,000 the first year and $32,000 for the following two year, Eastside Upper Elementary plans to increase the number of classroom computers to at least four along with a printer per classroom. All existing computers will be made network ready. The two current labs will be combined to create a 30 station lab. The remaining computers will be placed in classroom. T-1/Internet access will be provided and funded at the parish level. Student information software will be provided by the parish and available for teacher use in the classrooms. Additional funding will come through programs such as Special Education, Title I, Title II, and local fund raising. |
