After opening a new page in Word, click on the "Insert" menu, then "Picture", then "Chart", as the following screen shot shows.

The following default chart will open, which you will edit with your own information:

What do you see that's different from the menu bars in each of the above pictures? Notice that when you have your chart selected, with the dark hatch marks surrounding it, you will see the additional options of "Data" and "Chart", which means you are in the chart editing mode. You must be in this editing mode to enter data and make changes to your graph.
