Technology is a necessary part of
education today. We believe that a 'T' should to be added to the
three 'R's.....Reading, Writing, Arithemtic, and Technology. We
at Covington High School believe that technology is and will be an
integral part of the learning process. It is our aim to have all
students, teachers, and administrators gain the basics in
computing and move toward becoming expert in the use of
technology.
| Faculty Development Strategies |
First, we begin with a Technology Needs Accessment. We will need
to determine where the faculty stands in their need for training on the
following:
Projected Technology Areas of
Concentration
- Computer
equipment
- Graphing
Calculators
- CITRIX
- E-mail
- STI
lesson plans
|
- Digital
Cameras
- Scanners
- Copiers,
Printers
- STI
grading program
- Keyboarding
skills
|
Classes will be developed and
offered as training in
each of the listed areas. The technology coordinator will develop
a calendar and arrange for tech trainers to be available to teach these
classes for the faculty.
Classes will be offered by the
Technology Coordinator in Room 107 for teachers to upgrade their
skills. There will be beginner, intermediate, and advanced
classes designed to meet each teacher's skill level with
technology. Emphasis will be on helping the teacher to meet the Job
Performance Guidelines of integrating technology into the
classroom. The following classes will be held after school, and
during planning hours on Monday's and Friday's:

for St. Tammany Parish School Board. When classes become
available, they will be listed here for all educators to sign-up.
Classes are usually offered around the parish and at the Technology
Center in Mandeville. Notice that INTEC classes are also offered
at various times during the year.
Also, the state of Louisiana has
Technology Incentives posted on the Internet. Click here
to assess the state website for these guidelines.
Measures that will be used
to properly assess the teachers in the use
of technology are listed in the chart below. The timeline is
included for a 3-year plan. Links appear for sample assessment
guidelines.

Other incentives will be awarded to
those teachers who successfully use technology in their lessons.
There will be a monthy award given to the TECHNOLOGY
TEACHER OF THE
MONTH. A certificate will be given to a different teacher
each
month who successfully uses technology in a lesson plan and submits it
to the tech coordinator for approval. This teacher will be
presented before the teachers and the student body on the C4 news as
the technology award winner.
A
set of seven surveys designed to assess the schools' technology status
and stakeholders' perspectives on the use of technology in teaching and
