        Title of the Unit: The Four Seasons
        Unit Description: The Four Seasons Unit is designed to give young
            students a basic knowledge about the four seasons.  It is developed to
            give students an awareness of the seasons and the changes that occur
            during each.

        State Benchmarks and Standards:
        ESS-E-A4 - investigating, observing, measuring, and describing changes 
            in daily weather patterns and phenomena
            ESS-E-B4 - modeling changes that occur because of the rotation of the 
            Earth and the revolution of the Earth around the sun.
            ELA-1-E1 - gaining meaning from print and building vocabulary using a 
            full range of strategies (e.g., self-monitoring and correcting, searching,
            cross-checking), evidenced by reading behaviors while using the cuing 
            systems (e.g., phonics, sentence structure, meaning.)
            ELA-1-E2 - using the conventions of print (e.g., left-to-right directionality,
            top-to-bottom, one-to-one matching)
            ELA-2-E3 - creating written texts using the writing process
            ELA-3-E1 - writing legible
            ELA-3-E2 - demonstrating use of punctuation (e.g., comma, apostrophe, 
            period, question mark, exclamation mark), capitalization, and abbreviations 
            in final drafts of writing assignments
            ELA-5-E3 - locating, gathering and selecting information using graphic
            organizers, simple outlining, note taking, and summarizing to produce texts
            and graphics
            ELA-5-E6 - interpreting graphic organizers
            ELA-4-E3 - telling or retelling stories in sequence
            ELA-4-E4 - gving rehearsed and unrehearsed presentations
            N-4-E - demonstrating a conceptual understanding of the meaning of the 
            basic arithmetic operations (add, subtract, multiply, and divide) and their
            relationships to each other
            G-1-E - determining the relationship among shapes
            G-4-E - drawing, constructing models, and comparing geometric shapes, with
            special attention to developing spatial sense
            P-1-E - recognizing, describing, extending, and creating a wide variety of
            numerical geometrical and statistical patterns
            P-3-E - recognizing the use of patterns, relations and functions in other 
            strands and in real-life situations

        Goal: The students will gain an understanding of the seasons and the
            environmental changes that occur during each.

        Unit Objectives:
            TSWBAT identify the four seasons.
            TSWBAT describe the weather and environmental changes that occur
            during the seasons.
            TSWBAT identify the type of clothing that is appropriate for each season.

        Unit Requirements:
            1. Completion of lessons 1-5
            2. Completion of the WebQuest
            3. Completion of The Fabulous Four Seasons student made book.

            This unit is designed for kindergarten students with a basic knowledge of 
            the computer, mouse, printer, tape recorder, illustrating and writing.

            Students will need access to the following:

                paper
                paint
                Thinking Maps software
