Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature 
Subtopics
Like the card catalog, the Readers' Guide divides large subjects into subtopics. 

For example, the main topic "Europe" is shown with subtopics and "See also" references: 

EUROPE, Western 

See also
Churches--Europe, Western 
European--Atomic Authority 
Postal rates--Europe, Western 
Defenses
Description and travel
Both the Readers' Guide and the card catalog use see and see also entries.  See entries direct you from a topic heading that is not used to another which is used.  See also entries direct you to additional topics that may be helpful.
