MODULE 1
Introduction to the Library
Non-Fiction Books

Non-fiction books contain information, facts, and real-life incidents.  They are based on fact and true situations.  Non-fiction books are arranged on the shelf according to a system of classification created by Melvil Dewey called the Dewey Decimal System.

As you browse through the non-fiction books on the library shelves, you will probably notice that all non-fiction books have numbers on their spine.  These numbers are a part of an organizational system for arranging books in the library by subject.  This system is called the Dewey Decimal System of classification.  The Dewey Decimal System uses numbers and decimals to classify information into subject categories so that the reader can easily locate information.   For example, all books about computers would be located in one section, and all books about dogs would be located in another section of the library.
