Brief Description of Lesson:     
    This lesson presents a brief discussion of the organization of the library, fiction and non-fiction books, and the Dewey Decimal system of organization. 
Duration:   
    This lesson will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. 
Content Standards Used/Unit Goals/Objectives Supported:   
    • Content Standard 1:  Students read, comprehend, and respond to a range of materials, using a variety of strategies for different purposes. 
      • ELA-1-M5:  Using purposes for reading (e.g.  enjoying, learning, researching, problem-solving) to achieve a variety of objectives.
    • Content Standard 5:  Students locate, select, and synthesize information from a variety of texts, media, references, and technological sources to acquire and communicate knowledge.
      • ELA-5-E1:  Recognizing and using organizational features of printed text, other media, and electronic information.
      • ELA-5-E2: Locating and evaluating information sources.
Lesson Goals:   
    • The student will learn how fiction and non-fiction books are organized in the library. 
    • The student will learn the Dewey Decimal System of Classification.
