Miss Drouant's Philosophy of
Teaching and Learning

I believe in children. They are fabulous little people and I believe that every child can and will learn. I also know that children learn differently and at different rates. I strive each day to find those different learning styles in children and address each child's needs to the best of my ability so that learning will take place.

As an early childhood educator, I also believe that I must focus on all areas of development in the classroom: social, emotional, cognitive, and physical. Kindergarten provides foundation skills in all areas that are extremely important. For example, in kindergarten children are expected to follow routines, work in groups, play together, solve conflicts, become more independent, and in the process, learn new concepts and skills! This can be a tall order for any five or six year old!

It is my job as an early childhood educator to set up hands-on learning experiences from which students can construct knowledge. I view myself as a facilitator of learning in the classroom, not a giver of knowledge. My goal is to spark a curiosity in children to explore and learn. I also strive to foster positive learning experiences for young children to ensure that they grow up to be enthusiastic lifelong learners.

I believe that I have the best job in the world. I get to work with happy, active learners: little individuals who are growing, changing, and facing challenges each day. I am fortunate to be a part of my students' lives and to be able to make learning fun and meaningful for them in their early schooldays.
